View schedule →It began in 2016, when Pastor Yonathan Aklilu invited 9,000 young people to the first training in Hawassa - and 11,000 came. What happened there changed lives, and those young people became the first ambassadors of Excellent Youth / መልካም ወጣት.
Held every year between June and August, the training has grown each season - in 2025 alone, 30,000 young people took part. Beyond the conference, the ministry is building training and rehabilitation centers for youth across Ethiopia, and has reached Ethiopians and Eritreans abroad.

Born in 1985 in southern Ethiopia, Yonathan Aklilu studied accounting and finance at Arba Minch University and served as a teacher before answering the call to ministry. He planted Ye Addis Kidan Kahinat church and began the Marcil TV Channel, and through them the Lord laid on his heart a vision for the nation's youth - Melkam Wetat / መልካም ወጣት - open to young people of every background.
In 2019 his service to Ethiopia's youth was recognised with the Hessian Peace Prize, and in 2020 Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed presented the €25,000 award toward the building of the Melkam Wetat center. That December, on behalf of Melkam Wetat, he also gave 10 million Ethiopian birr to a school feeding program launched by the Addis Ababa city administration.
